Xiaomi Mi 2 (2012) — The Phone That Put Xiaomi on the Map
The Xiaomi Mi 2, often referred to as the Xiaomi Phone 2, is an Android smartphone that helped establish Xiaomi as a serious player in the smartphone industry. Announced in August 2012, the Mi 2 quickly became one of the most talked-about devices in China for offering flagship-level specifications at a fraction of the price charged by bigger global brands.
At its core, the Mi 2 was powered by a quad-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, which was considered cutting-edge performance for its era. It came with 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, giving users plenty of room for apps, photos, and media.
The device featured a 4.3-inch IPS LCD display with a 720p resolution and Dragontrail glass protection, delivering sharp visuals for its time. On the camera front, the Mi 2 packed an 8MP rear camera capable of capturing 1920×1080 video at 30fps, along with a 2MP front-facing camera for video calls.
A 2000mAh battery kept the device running throughout the day, and the phone ran on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Xiaomi’s custom MIUI skin layered on top, offering a fast and customizable user experience.
The Mi 2 initially sold for ¥1999 in China and was available in white, green, yellow, blue, red, and pink color finishes, making it a stylish and affordable option that helped fuel Xiaomi’s rapid rise to becoming one of the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturers.
